Benefits of holding a CISSP certification:
  • Higher income. You can earn an average annual salary of $130,000+
  • True expertise. Gain cybersecurity expertise other certifications don’t provide.
  • Job security. There seems to always be a shortage of qualified cybersecurity professionals. With data privacy laws tightening up across the world, many organizations only hire IT security pros who hold a top-level certification.
  • Certification concentrations. Once you become CISSP certified, you can pursue three sub-certifications: CISSP-ISSAP (for architects), CISSP-ISSEP (for engineers), and CISSP-ISSMP (for management).
  • CISSP to IRAP certification. Australian companies are getting hit hard by cyberattacks. If you wouldn’t mind working overseas in a country that desperately needs better cybersecurity, The CISSP certification will get your foot in the door to the Australian Government’s Information Registered Assessors Program (IRAP).When you’re IRAP certified, you can expect to earn quite a large salary as an IRAP assessor – potentially more than what you can earn in the United States.
CISSP Qualifications:
  • A minimum of five cumulative years working or interning in two of the eight CISSP domains:
    1. Asset Security
    2. Communication and Network Security
    3. Identity and Access Management (IAM)
    4. Security and Risk Management
    5. Security Architecture and Engineering
    6. Security Assessment and Testing
    7. Security Operations
    8. Software Development Security

Work experience is accrued on a monthly basis. You must have worked 35 hours per week for four weeks each month to accrue one month of qualifying work experience. If you work part-time, you must have worked a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Substitutions:

If you possess a four-year college degree, you may count that as one year of work experience.

If you possess an (ISC)² approved credential from this list, you may substitute that for one year of work experience.

Ongoing requirements:
  • Earn 120 CPE credits every three years. You can break this down into earning 40 credits per year.
